Sanctuary Itineraries

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary is one of the indispensable tourist monuments when visiting Fatima. This Sanctuary, which is the place where the three shepherds saw the Virgin Mary in 1917, is currently one of the most visited sites in the entire country.
However, if you want to know more about Fatima’s link to religion, then you should also visit the Parish Church, where the three shepherds were baptised. The Main Church of Fatima was built in the 16th century, in 1568.
Follow in the direction of Ortiga and visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ortiga, where the Virgin Mary appeared to a little mute girl who was herding sheep. As soon as she saw the godly woman, the child felt her tongue untangle, and began to speak. The little girl’s father became emotional and had a Sanctuary built in honour of Our Lady of Ortiga.

Tip: Go up the stairs of the support house adjacent to the Church of Ortiga and enjoy the view – you can see some of Fatima’s villages, a typical windmill, and the Castle of Ourem from there.

Curious Fact: The statue of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres was embodied on the wall of the Main Church of Fatima at the time it was being built. When the Church was renovated, the construction workers found the image of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, which had remained intact.

In this itinerary, you will visit:

1 - Chapel of the Apparitions, Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, Basilica of the Holy Trinity, and a block of the Berlin Wall.

2 - Baptismal Font, statues of Saints Jacinta and Francisco, and the image of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, from the 16th century.

3 - Image of Our Lady of Ortiga, Sanctuary.
