The Castle and Medieval Town of Ourem
The construction date for the Castle is unknown; however, it is thought to have been built around the 12th century. In order to reach it, you need to climb a steep slope. At the end, visitors are ‘rewarded’ with a panoramic view of most of the district.
In the Medieval Town of Ourem – surrounded by the pine grove, vegetable gardens, and vineyards –, you will find the Castle, as well as Paço dos Condes – former residence of Count Afonso –, the turrets at the entrance, the Collegiate Church, the fountain, and Pelourinho.
There are also cafés and shops within the walls with the best this region has to offer, particularly Ourem’s Ginjinha (sweet cherry liqueur). At the end of the day, you can enjoy the sunset in the park by the fountain.

Municipal Museum Casa do Administrador
Casa do Administrador is a two-floor building, which studies and displays Ourem’s cultural identity and heritage.
This house is associated with the history of the Fatima Apparitions, since this is where the three shepherds were questioned and held up between August 13th and 15th, 1917. Artur Oliveira Santos – owner of the house – led the questioning. Oliveira Santos was mayor of Vila Nova de Ourem in 1911 and administrator of this municipality in 1915, 1917, 1919, and 1922; he was also a writer and journalist.
