The festivity in honour of Our Lady of Fetal, in Reguengo do Fetal, Batalha, is also known as ‘Festa dos Caracois’. During the traditional night procession, all the lights in the village go out and the snail shells, which have been collected by the population, light the way for the worshippers.
The first procession takes place in the last Saturday of September at night, when the image of Our Lady departs the Chapel of Fetal towards the parish church. The second procession takes place the following Saturday, also at night, by taking the road back and returning the image to the Sanctuary.
